When the southwest monsoon reaches the west and south coasts, the east is calm, dry and sunny. This private tour crosses the island via the cave temples of Dambulla to Trincomalee, a deep natural harbour ringed with white beaches, coral and Hindu temples.
From there, the coast road runs south past lagoons and fishing villages to Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka's best-known surf town. It's a route for travellers who want quieter beaches, warm clear water and a real sense of discovery.

Day 1 · Airport → Dambulla → Trincomalee
A long but rewarding travel day, broken halfway by the Dambulla Cave Temple, arriving on the east coast in time for sunset.

Day 2 · Nilaveli & Pigeon Island
A short boat ride takes you to Pigeon Island National Park for the morning's snorkelling. The rest of the day is free on Nilaveli beach.

Day 3 · Trincomalee
A morning exploring Trincomalee town and its history, with the afternoon free. In season, a boat trip to look for dolphins and whales can be added.

Day 4 · Trincomalee → Arugam Bay
A scenic drive down the east coast through Batticaloa's lagoons and fishing towns, reaching Arugam Bay by late afternoon.
A stop by the lagoon and the old Dutch fort on the way through.
Watch the surfers from the beach at the end of the day.
Day 5 · Arugam Bay
A morning in the water or on the lagoon. The tour ends in Arugam Bay — or continue to Ella, Yala or Colombo, arranged on request.
Beginner lessons on the gentler breaks; experienced surfers can head to Main Point.

Sri Lanka has two main monsoons, so there is always a sunny coast somewhere. From about May to September the southwest monsoon brings rain to the west and south — while the east coast is dry, calm and sunny.
From about November to February it switches: the northeast monsoon rains on the east, and the south and west coasts have their best weather. That is why this tour is planned for the middle of the year.
